Just this week end i have been curious as to what video streaming applications on google play are deployed using adobe air. Although a simple Google search was not useful, i decided to hunt some of them down manually. However narrowing down some of the apps it was still not clear if all of the streaming apps were done in Adobe air or not.
Finally i did find some apps that i was sure were made in AIR, and furthermore i found a common factor in all those apps. They all seem to carry bad user ratings. Dont know why it is so but its true. Almost all video streaming apps on google play done using AIR are burdened by user complains. Most of them say app does not work, blank screen , crashes etc.
Here is a brief list of my observation:
Application | Made in AIR | User ratings |
ITV Player | Yes | 2/5 |
SnagFilms | Yes | 3/5 |
SPIEGEL.TV | Yes | 3/5 |
Ustream | Not SURE | 4/5 |
LiveStream | Not SURE | 3/5 |
blogTV Broadcast | Not SURE | 3/5 |
Well i am not sure but to me it looks like all video apps powered bt AIR seem to be bringing them a bad name. But then that’s what i think. Today after more than 2 years of adobe air on android i am still to see some proof of stability and performance when it comes to Adobe AIR. If you have something to say please comment below and let your voice be heard. In the past year ever since the abandoning of flex the community seems dormant. My doubt still remains on whether Adobe air is a usable solution for a video streaming business or not.
