Warning Indian Consumers !! – watch out for HTC Explorer Defect

Its just been over a week or two that HTC launched its much touted HTC Explorer in India as a revision. Before you go shop hopping to get this device for yourself (falling for the reduced price), please be warned that out of random samples that i have checked from HTC retailer ,  2 /2 HTC Explorer were found to have a major manufacturing defect.

To verify whether your handset is a defective one or not follow the steps below:

1. Connect your earphones to the phone to act as a antenna

2. Turn on the Android FM application.

3. Now use the HTC options button to select speakers as our output source.

At this stage if you listen  to any FM station, you will find the audio breaking and jumping. If this is your phone, you may be in for a peril at customer service. Thus its best you know about it prior to purchase. It is very much possible that the defect was known in prior and the price was reduced to help it sell off (Just my personal opinion).

Please get your phone checked for the defect mentioned above when you are buying. If you have been a victim of publicity over newspaper or other media , you may approach consumer court in your local city to file a case as you see fit. The defect is found only in the new batch of phones (after the offer was made available).

Customer awareness in India is still quiet poor, and hence such issues creep in unnoticed.  Hopefully we will get some kind of official response from HTC on this. Currently customer service had nothing to say on this. they could not refuse and neither will they accept.

My sensational new toy !! – HTC Sensation

So today was the grand day i waited for , since the days of flash lite .. reaching the era i waited for so long i finally unpacked my sensational new HTC Sensation. With full flash support as plug-in and AIR run-time. Flash as plugin doesn’t matter to me on mobile i am only excited by AIR capabilities.

Everyone has a opinion of his/her own but in my view HTC Sensation makes iphone look like a conservative control freak’s gadget.

Flash Player’s Advance Echo Cancellation suffers a serious defect ??

While recently working with the new Flash Player features, i came across a definitive issue in the new claimed AEC (Advance Echo cancellation) feature.

While Adobe says that AEC removes all echo problems that may happen in 2 way communications, i really doubt that the issue is far from resolved. In fact this introduces a new kind of issue.

The AEC algorithm actually tries to clear echoes, and mic feedback residues. However the interesting thing to note is the feedback issue will happen only if you have set Microphone.setLoopback(true); Else you will never need AEC anyways.

Now when you have Microphone.setLoopback(true); and you use AEC to save the day, you will notice that it often kills your own mic feed thinking it to be  echo from the other side. Thus back to my original statement.. we never did solve the Echo problem.

In fact i found a issue reported on Adobe forums that has not been responded to. It seems that the issue happens when you use the EnhancedMicrophone api http://forums.adobe.com/thread/899119

Hence i will conclude this is a flash player AEC bug?? If any one may want to comment on this, and thinks otherwise (that AEC works for you), please let me know.
